Aakriti Jain is a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas, advised by Prof. Abusayeed Saifullah. She received a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Wayne State University in 2024 and a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi, in 2021. She expects to complete her PhD in May 2027.
Aakriti builds low-power wireless systems that deliver timely, reliable, and energy-efficient communication for wide-area industrial IoT and cyber-physical systems (CPS), from oil fields and smart grids to remote process plants. In a low-power wide-area network (LPWAN), thousands of energy-constrained devices contend for the same channel, and meeting strict deadlines within a tight energy budget is a challenge that short-range industrial solutions cannot address.
Her work brings real-time operation to LPWANs through deadline-aware medium access control, burst-resilient and energy-aware communication for intermittently powered devices, and scheduling–control co-design that treats the network as part of the control loop rather than a fixed delay. It also spans latency-aware data collection with mobile sinks, cross-technology communication from LR-FHSS to LoRa, and machine-learning-based scheduling for multicore processors. Going forward, she aims to extend these guarantees to direct-to-satellite and 5G/6G IoT.
Her first-author IEEE RTSS 2024 paper, Burst-MAC, received the 2025 Michael E. Conrad Graduate Research Award (Runner-Up) from the Department of Computer Science at Wayne State University. Her work has been published at ACM/IEEE SenSys, IEEE RTSS, IEEE RTAS, ACM/IEEE ICCPS, IEEE DCOSS-IoT, and ACM/IEEE IoTDI, and in ACM Transactions on Cyber-Physical Systems and ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems. The research page describes each area in more detail, and the publications page lists every paper.
